Geotechnical Engineering
In the Department of Geotechnical Engineering ground and groundwater conditions are investigated and assessed, recommendations are given for foundation engineering, earthworks and bank protection, advice for problems related to soil dynamics is provided and the interaction of building structure, ground and groundwater is investigated.
These issues are dealt with in Karlsruhe, Hamburg and Ilmenau, on the one hand as project assignments in the form of expert reports and advice for the structural work commissioned by the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration, WSV. On the other hand, key issues are addressed, such as the gathering and evaluation of geotechnical experience, research and development projects, drawing up guidelines, technical bulletins and standards, as well as organizing scientific workshops and training courses.
