Research and Development

Our science-based services are founded on extensive research and development. We are currently working on the three major research fields of infrastructure, mobility and the environment and are involved in around 100 related research projects, often in close cooperation with other research institutions.

Topics range from sediment management issues through to repairs of existing structures, restoration of ecological connectivity at barrages and safe and economically efficient foundations for offshore wind turbines. Many research projects involve working across disciplines.

The methods applied must always be suitable to meet the challenges of each specific task in waterways engineering. Developing these methods and making them available for practical application is one of the objectives of research and development. We maintain a high level of scientific standards in these activities and the quality of our investigations is assured by standardised processes.
